22 Jul Making a difference on Mandela Day

On Friday, 18 July—celebrated in South Africa as Mandela Day in honour of the iconic statesman—Safire staff at Head Office in Pietermaritzburg dedicated their 67 minutes of service to assembling soup jars for Sunlit Gardens Home for Children and the Aryan Benevolent Society.
Planning for this community initiative began well before the day itself. Each floor of Safire House had a cardboard collection container for donations of glass coffee jars and soup jar ingredients such as rice, split peas, lentils, stock cubes, and soup powders in the weeks leading up to Mandela Day.
On Friday, after gathering in Lucky’s Training Centre on the third floor of Safire House, the teams got to work! We were proud to pack 199 soup jars, each capable of feeding a family of four, meaning a total of 796 people will benefit.
Seen here, ready to begin packing, are (left to right): Yvonne Clowes, Tasneem Mahomed, Kershia Johnson, Clarisa van Dyk, and Azariah Naidoo.

Meanwhile, at our Pretoria office, the team collected perishable food items for the NG Church Waverley East. Seen here are some of the items collected.

Our Cape Town team handed out 67 cups of hot soup and bread rolls to those in need. Here are Teyana Buckley (Safire) and Sancha Pare (Shackleton Risk Management).

Well done, Team Safire!
